Thoughts on the FUTURE of waxing

The last few seasons have started to bring about some change in the waxing world after many years. Some folks have really gotten wound up over something that for most recreational skiers has very little affect on them. The key question is
Where is it going?
This year has begun with loads of folks asking about Liquid Wax, Spray on Wax, Do I get rid of my Iron and much more. Yes there are many changes coming to the World of Waxing and let us tell you even more on the horizon. This past week it was announced by FIS that they are placing a FULL Ban on Flouro’s  this will have somewhat of an affect for the World Cup, OPA Cup, Collegiate Teams and high level Junior/Senior Level racing, although from what we are seeing the Wax Manufacturers are already ahead of the curve.
Industry wise we and the Wax Manufacturers have been seeing this on the horizon so the R&D departments were gearing up. The announcement was made over this past week and already from many of the Major players in the industry we are seeing the signs of what we heard was coming.
What does all of this mean?
We are still not fully sure. Loads of NEW products are coming to market, many will have NEW application methods. Although there will no longer be waxes with the F- Word in them they will have different compounds and the companies will still make different levels of product. From the Entry level recreational skier to the High End Elite level racer. There has been some thought that “Oh if we go to Non-Fluoro we will have only cheap slow wax” Sorry folks we have had High End Non-Fluoro waxes for a number of years, pricing out in the $300 + per unit.
R&D does not come free.
So for now slow down on reading every article that is out from every manufacturer as in the next 24 months there will be even more changes that they are not telling you about yet. So just get Out There and enjoy skiing and remember the best wax service or wax in the world will not give you a winning race if you did not TRAIN..
