The Duluth XC Ski Club invites skiers of all ages and skill levels to visit their favorite trails and explore new ones. Ski 5k or 75k! Bring your family & friends, meet other skiers along the way, then join us at Hartley Nature Center at 5:30pm for a post-skiing celebration (beer, food, and socializing). DXC board members will give a brief “year in review” presentation after dinner.
We are pleased to announce that we will be continuing our STRONG commitment to CXC Skiing in the next year. Two Seasons ago we added a Strength Training Facility to help benefit our Growing CXC Masters Chapter, and we will be continuing to add additional benefits for the 16-17 Season. Along with Support of the CXC Hosted Junior National Championships http://www.xcjuniornationals2016.com/ and Summer Programming with Masters & Jr’s. Stay Tuned for lots of Great Things happening Out There with CXC this season!
Wow, once again the Nordic Season flies by and we are already nearing March! This years 43rd American Birkie shaped up to be a good one. With warm weather coming in it made for exciting times waxing. Before going any further I must extend a HUGE Thanks to my wife ~ Kris. She once again does amazing things from working in the shop, behind the scenes and waxing. Along with assisting young athletes at the Jr. Birkie and the morning of the Birkie prior to setting off for her race. THANK YOU! A couple others to mention, my dad (Burnell), Jasmine Wiley and many others for your help that week.
This year I took a NEW perspective on the event as I completed my 15th running of the American Birkie. I dropped back from my wave with my friend Collin to ski with a friend of ours Shannon. Shannon was skiing his 1st Classic Birkie from wave 5. Starting in a later wave was much more laid back and amazingly fun. For the first time in years I was able to ski with folks and have a conversation, stop at the 39k Club for a Shot Ski & doughnut hole, assist racers who were having trouble with wax and just have an great day enjoying nature, skiers and the trail. I challenge those folks who are fortunate enough ski in the front on trails that are in great shape to find a friend or a new skier to join on a journey from Cable to Hayward sometime and see a NEW view of the event and the trail. You may be pleasantly surprised!

So 6 years ago now we began this adventure called “Out There”. It is really crazy to think how fast it has gone by. Just over 4 years ago we Started this little Athlete support project “Team Out There” working to support athletes from around the globe. Well from our first athlete folks seemed to feel it was a pretty great concept, and now it has taken flight. We just welcomed Team Out There’s 20th athlete and have been approached by another (US Athlete) whom we are working to see if She will be getting Out There as well. We find it AMAZING to receive letters & emails from athletes around the globe who are interested in being a part of what we are doing to Grow Nordic. The next most amazing thing is the emails & messages we receive form many of the athletes & their Families once they have joined the “Family” of Out There athletes and how things have changed in a hugely positive way for them. Keep an eye Out There to see the folks that join this Movement and set themselves a part by bringing
